KompoZer – Easy web authoring

I was reading my daily email from Inside Higher Ed, and noticed the University of Illinois Global Campus was advertising for virtual e-learning instructors. I checked it to find that their first minimum job requirement was a PhD or EdD. Oh well.

But I also noticed that an additional requirement for teaching their Learning Technologies course was “experience teaching basic web design using WYSIWYG editing tools such as KompoZer, an open source Web editing tool.”

I was not familiar with KompoZer, so upon checking it out, it looks like it would be a valuable tool for the many of folks who want to create web pages but don’t want or need to learn programs like Dreamweaver or Front Page. It is a complete web authoring system to begs to be investigated. Given that it requires a complete download, I wonder how comprehensive and yet turnkey it is? Can the individual person who is not a system administrator be able to do the install and start-up configuration?  Is this a solution for teachers in the classroom who want to simply create a web page for their students? Seems like it would be a solution well worth checking out. Too bad that I don’t have the time right now to download it now, but I would be interested to know if anyone has used this tool and what you think of it.
